Suspected drug user, pusher shot dead at Bohol boarding house

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol – Two half-brothers who were suspected drug pushers and users were shot dead inside their rented room here on Monday night.

The victims were identified as Herculano “Kula” Dopenio, 29, and his half-brother Arlie Ayeng, 23, both residents of Pamaong Street in this city.

Witnesses told the police that two men entered the boarding house of the victims at 8:15 p.m. on Monday.

The younger brother, Ayeng, was inside the room when the assailants, who were wearing bonnets, barged into the room, pulled out a gun and kicked him in the chest.

He was able to run away from the boarding house. Moments later, gunshots were heard.

Dopenio and Ayeng died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Eleven spent shells were found at the crime scene.

Also recovered from the victims were three small sachets with residue of suspected shabu and a foil.

Police said Ayeng surrendered to Tagbilaran City police station for Oplan Tokhang, a police campaign that involves knocking on the houses of drug suspects and asking them to surrender.

Dopenia, however, didn’t surrender despite urging from barangay officials and police to stop selling illegal drugs.

Police said they received reports the half-brothers had returned to peddling shabu.
