Unemployed man on drug watch list killed in Ecija town

LICAB, Nueva Ecija — An unemployed man was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen on Sunday afternoon.

Vernon Santos, 42, who was listed on a local drug watch list, was attacked by two men wearing helmets in front of a machinist shop in Poblacion Sur village at 4:35 p.m., said PO2 Paquito Pantas Jr., the case investigator.

Last week on July 29 in Palayan City, the remains of a gagged and hogtied man were found along a village road in Singalat village at 5:26 a.m. The body bore three gunshot wounds in the head. The slain man was tattooed on the left arm with the phrase, “Nopiel love Ovie.”

A piece of cardboard was strapped around the body, marked with the sentence: “Huwag tularan! Motornapper, runner ng drugs (Do not emulate! Motorcycle thief and drug runner.” JE/rga
