Luzon power grid on ‘red alert’
The power supply in Luzon continues to dip as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) raised its power alert to red status on Saturday morning.
In an advisory, the NGCP said the Luzon grid was placed on red alert from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to “zero operating reserves brought about by insufficient power supply.”
As of 9:30 a.m., NGCP said available capacity was 8,312 megawatts, while the peak demands 8,117 megawatts.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel, NGCP spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza said several power plants went offline earlier on Saturday without announcing their plans.
Alabanza said they were eyeing to lift the red alert status by 4 p.m. JE
