NAGA CITY, Philippines—A suspected drug pusher was killed in a gunfight with policemen during a drug bust in Nabua town in Camarines Sur province on Monday, police said on Tuesday.
Senior Supt. Walfredo Pornillos, provincial police director, said Romel Ostonal, a resident of Oas town in the neighboring province of Albay, was transacting with an undercover policeman in Barangay Paloyon Oriental when he drew his gun after sensing he was being entrapped.
Ostonal died while being taken to the Medical Mission Group Hospital in Nabua town.
Pornillos said police recovered .38 cal. gun, four plastic sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), a sachet of dried marijuana and five bullets for a .45 cal. pistol from the slain suspect.
Last week, a suspected illegal drug pusher was found dead in Naga City.
SPO2 Tobias Bongon, Naga police spokesperson, said a cardboard, bearing “Huwag tularan mga pushers—Bicol Vigilantes (Do not emulate drug pushers—Bicol Vigilantes),” was placed near the body of Ariel Bucacao, 29, last Sunday.
His body was found at 5 a.m. at the entrance of Saint James Subdivision along Almeda Highway in Barangay Concepcion Grande. Bucacao had stab wounds in the chest and throat. RAM/rga
