NAGA CITY—A former policeman was shot dead when he resisted arrest during a buy-bust operation in Naga City on Saturday morning.

Senior Police Officer 2 Tobias Bongon, spokesperson for Naga City police, said operatives of the police regional anti-illegal drugs special operation task force shot and killed Noel Balla, 36, a former policeman who went awol (absent without leave) in 2007, in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Liboton, Naga City, at around 10 a.m.

In a police report, Balla resisted arrest and initiated a gunfight with police. The policemen retaliated, killing Balla.

A police asset was able to buy a sachet of “shabu” from Balla with the marked money provided by police which were recovered from the scene. Police also recovered a .38-cal. revolver.
