THREE suspected car thieves were killed in a shootout with policemen on Monday after they held up a taxi driver in Quezon City and took his cab.
Operatives of the District Special Operation Unit (DSOU) said they spotted EMP taxi driver Danilo Saring, 59, at the corner of Camaro Street and Commonwealth Avenue in Barangay East Fairview around 1:45 a.m. half-naked and hogtied.
He told the authorities that four men boarded his cab near Philcoa around 1:30 a.m. and took his valuables and taxi.
Responding policemen caught up with the car thieves on Batasan-San Mateo Road around 2 a.m. Insp. Rene Balmaceda, the head of the DSOU operatives, said they were about to flag down the cab when the suspects fired on them, leading to a shootout.

Drug pushing cop dead
A NORTHERN Police District policeman who reportedly moonlighted as a drug pusher died in an alleged shootout with Caloocan lawmen on Monday afternoon.
Senior Supt. Johnson Almazan, Caloocan police chief, said that PO3 Robert Cahilig of the NPD Anti-Illegal Drug Division was about to deliver illegal drugs to Caloocan City when he figured in a firefight with members of the city police’s antidrugs unit.
