THE DEPARTMENT of Science and Technology (DOST) is promising a more vibrant research and development program in the provinces to spur economic development in the countryside in line with President Duterte’s vision of making growth more inclusive.
Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato de la Peña said new programs would be introduced by the agency according to “the needs of the times,” although the major programs started during the previous administration would be continued.
“Whether it is in the area of research and development or in the area of services like the entrepreneurial sector, these will be given extra attention,” said De la Peña at the recent 38th Annual Scientific Meeting of the National Academy of Science and Technology, which had scientists, researchers and students in attendance.
He said the agency would expand its support and services to capacitate institutions in the regions for science and technology.
He said this would be accomplished by assisting them to initiate research and development projects that would be receptive to the needs and potentials of the regions. Jocelyn R. Uy
