KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato — Police authorities swooped into the Cotabato Provincial Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Amas here on Tuesday and seized at least 13 small and medium sachets of suspected shabu from three cells.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, the spokesperson of the North Cotabato Police Office, said the raid was conducted following a tip on the proliferation of illegal drugs inside the facility.

He said the raid targeted the three cells, where drug suspects were being held.

Tayong said the raiding team also seized several drug paraphernalia and deadly weapons during the surprise raid.

“We received information that there are inmates who are still into illegal drugs despite being held inside the jail; thus this operation was conducted,” he added.

Tayong said additional charges would be filed against the inmates, whose cells yielded the illegal drugs.

Last year, at least six jail guards assigned at the facility, run by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, were placed under investigation and were temporarily reassigned when a similar raid also yielded illegal drugs.  SFM
