LUCENA CITY – A suspected drug pusher in Lucena City was killed when he tried to escape his police escorts early dawn Friday, police said.
Supt. Dennis de Leon, Lucena police chief, said Delson Nazareno Beringuela, 25, a suspected drug pusher who was arrested in a previous anti-drug operation, and his security escorts were traveling back to the headquarters after a routine medical examination in a local hospital when he tried to escape while on board a mobile patrol vehicle at around 2:30 a.m.
Police claimed the victim, who was handcuffed on the front part of the vehicle, tried to grab the service firearm of one policeman. During the scuffle, the gun accidentally fired, hitting Beringuela on his neck.
The victim died while being transported to the hospital. CDG
