Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday expressed her gratitude to President Rodrigo Duterte for appointing her as the head of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).

“Nagpapasalamat tayo kay Presidente Rodrigo Duterte na itinalaga tayo bilang tagapangulo ng Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council,” Robredo said in a statement to the media few minutes after Duterte’s camp made the announcement.

Robredo said it had been the desire of her late husband, former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, to address the needs of the homeless.

Now that she would be leading the government’s housing arm, Robredo said this would allow her to serve those in the marginalized sector, as she promised when she formally took office as the second highest official in the land.
