Fire razes 67-year-old Ateneo de Zamboanga gym

Fire hit the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) campus Thursday morning and razed the school’s 67-year-old gymnasium.

A Radyo Inquirer report said that fire hit the Brebeuf Gym on the university’s Fr. Eusebio Salvador campus on La Purisima street at about 8 a.m.

ADZU reported on its Facebook page that the Bureau of Fire Protection declared the fire out at 9:48 a.m.

The blaze reached the school’s cafeteria and covered court, the radio report said.

The Brebeuf Gym is one of the oldest structures on campus, having been built in 1949.

The ADZU FB page listed the affected buildings as:
– Manuel Sauras Hall (2 floors of the cafeteria, College of Law)
– Xavier Hall
– Brebeuf Gymnasium
– Kostka

The affected offices were listed as those of the:
– Assistant to the Academic Vice-President
– Academic Vice-President
– School of Education
– School of Management and Accountancy
– University Registrar
– School of Liberal Arts
– College of Nursing
– Center of Information Technology Services
– Computer Laboratories (Advanced and Basic Laboratories)

University officials called off all classes which were suspended until further notice.

No casualties were reported, the school FB page said. It added that equipment such as computers were spared and documents from the registrar’s office were intact.
