LUCENA CITY – Two motorcycle riders were killed while one was injured in a vehicular accident along the Quirino Highway in Guinayangan town in Quezon province, police said Saturday.
In a report, Chief Inspector Javier Baasis, public information officer of the Quezon police provincial office, said a motorcycle being driven by Carlo Meullo accidentally collided with the Manila-bound RSL passenger bus, driven by Reyvin Cañero, in Barangay San Luis 2 at around 11:00 p.m. Friday.
The report said the victims overtook another vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve. The motorcycle driver did not see the incoming bus.
Meullo and back rider Cristel Salalila both died on the way to the hospital while third back rider Robert Maravilla survived. He is being treated at Magsaysay Memorial Hospital in Lopez town.
In a phone interview, Senior Insp. Eric Veluz, Guinayangan police chief, said the victims were not wearing the mandatory crash helmets at the time of the accident. The victims sustained head and body injuries.
The bus driver was detained by police for proper disposition. CDG
