TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol—A suspected drug lord and his cohort were killed in a shoot-out with the police inside a rented room of a pension house here, just four hours after President Rodrigo Duterte took his oath of office on Thursday.
Killed were Karlvin Chavez Licong, 27, a resident of Torero Street here, and his still unidentified companion.
Senior Insp. Jojit Mananquil, team leader of Provincial Intelligence Branch-Special Operations Group (PIB-SOG), said Licong and his runner fired at the policemen following a sting operation about 4 p.m.
Mananquil said Licong was placed under surveillance after the police learned about his illegal drug activities.
The police tracked down Licong who had rented rooms in at least four pension houses in Tagbilaran City.
“He would text his buyers to come to his room to buy ‘shabu,'” Mananquil said.
On Thursday afternoon, the poseur buyer met Licong inside the rented room and a purchase was made.
The police cornered the suspects but Licong and his cohort fired at the policemen. An exchange of gunfire ensued.
Seized from the suspects were five big and 11 small sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P300,000, two pistols with ammunition and several drug paraphernalia./rga
