2 killed in Maharlika Highway bus mishap

LUCENA CITY, Philippines—Two pedestrians died after they were hit by a passenger bus traveling along the Maharlika Highway in Candelaria town in Quezon province, police said Friday.

Victims Marvin Castro Marcelo and Jayson Pajardo Valencia, both residents of Angat, Bulacan, were accidentally bumped by a Lucena-bound DLTB Bus driven by Edwin Liguro while crossing the highway in Barangay  Bukal Sur around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, said Chief Inspector Javier Baasis, public information officer of Quezon provincial police.

The victims sustained severe head and body injuries. They died while being transported to Peter Paul Hospital at Candelaria town center, Baasis said.

The driver was arrested and detained in the local police jail for proper disposition. RAM/rga
