Duterte, Robredo finally meet

President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo met for the first time on Friday in Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City after winning in the recently concluded May national elections.

Duterte and Robredo shook hands as they shared the stage in the change of command ceremony of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) after full military honors for the chief executive.

The two officials were just one seat apart with outgoing Acting AFP chief Glorioso Miranda between them.

Duterte and Robredo held separate inaugurations on Thursday, a first in Philippine history.

Duterte, who earlier decided to hold his inauguration in a simple ceremony in Malacañang instead of at Quirino Grandstand, wanted a separate oath-taking from Robredo to give her a chance to invite more guests.

The President had around 600 guests while 1,000 others were on a waiting list for his inauguration. RAM/rga
