DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Sara Duterte, this city’s mayor, is taking a leave starting Friday until July 22, her brother and city Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte told reporters in a press conference on Friday.
Paolo said that his sister has given him some tasks such as to review the contracts of the city’s job order employees and to prepare the annual city budget, among others.
“I was instructed by the mayor to review all contracts of all job order employees and other related documents so that there will be no vacuum in government service,” Paolo said.
“I was also designated to prepare the annual 2017 budget. Review the Kadayawan preparations and ensure the continuity of all pending projects. Let us all buckle down and work for our city,” the presidential son added.
Paolo did not give any reason why her sister decided to take a leave.
However, he was quick to clarify that Sara’s leave is not related to the assumption of the presidency of their father, Rodrigo Duterte.
The mayor is said to hold a press conference on Monday, July 4, to explain the reason for her leave.
Paolo is on his second term as vice mayor. His sister Sara replaced their father who ran and won the presidency.
