Wanted in New York, toiling in Makati

A FILIPINO-AMERICAN fugitive wanted in New York was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation in Guadalupe, Makati City, where he was found working in a construction site.

Miguel Abarentos faces extradition to the United States as a suspect in the killing of Thawerdas Sadhwani on Dec. 15, 2015, according to the NBI press information office chief, Nick Suarez.

Abarentos was arrested on June 21 based on a warrant issued by Judge Janice Yulo-Antero of Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 16.

He had been charged in the United States with second degree murder that carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison, Suarez said.

Earlier efforts to locate in him in the United States proved futile until American authorities, with the help of the NBI, found him hiding in Makati and employed as a construction worker. Aie Balagtas See
