MANILA, Philippines — A total of 28 areas are forecast to hit “danger” level peak heat indices on Monday, Election Day, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Based on Pagasa’s latest forecast, the highest heat index will be experienced in Sangley Point, Cavite, and Catarman, Samar, at 45ºC.
Pagasa defines heat index as the “measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself.”
Heat indices ranging from 42ºC to 51ºC are automatically tagged “danger category” due to increased risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke.
