2 9-year-old boys drown in Iloilo creek
ILOILO CITY–Two minors drowned in a creek inside West Visayas State University-College of Agriculture and Forestry (WVSU-CAF) in Lambunao town, Iloilo past 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
Insp. Felix Alliansa, Lambunao police chief, identified the fatalities as Alyas Nonoy Agustino and Boy Lozada, both 9 years old and Grade 3 pupils of Don Ignacio Ramirez Mrmorial Elementary School in Barangay Jayubo, Lambunao.
Alliansa said the two boys and their two friends went inside the campus of WVSU-CAF to swim at the Jayubo Creek to celebrate the feast of St. John de Baptist.
“The victims swam to the deepest part of the creek where they drowned. The water is more that eight feet deep,” Alliansa said.
Agustino and Lozada attended their classes in the morning but skipped their afternoon classes to frolic in the creek.
Alliansa said the university had prohibited swimming in the creek but the boys sneaked inside the campus. CDG
