Masbate village chief shot dead
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines—A village chief in Masbate was killed by a still unidentified suspect while sitting inside a “sari-sari” store he owned, police said Friday.
Elpedio Demape, 53, the village chief of Mahayahay, was shot death in Placer, Masbate around 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, said Senior Police Officer 1 Zandro Cabintoy, public information officer of the Masbate provincial police.
Cabintoy said the victim was sitting on the wooden bench in his store when an unidentified suspect armed with .45 caliber pistol entered the residence and shot him several times in the jaw and other parts of the body. Demape died while being transported to Placer Rural Health Center.
Authorities recovered two fired cartridge cases and one metallic slug of a .45 caliber pistol in the crime scene.
The Masbate Police Provincial Office formed “Task Force Demape” to augment the Placer police in the investigation of the case. RAM/rga
