DIGOS CITY, Philippines—A still unidentified motorcycle thief was killed by elements of the police’s City Special Anti-Organized Crime Group (CSOG) after a brief chase around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Supt. April Mark Young, the city police chief, said CSOG operatives were conducting a mobile checkpoint along Aurora St. here and flagged down the suspect, who was riding a single motorcycle, for another offense—absence of license plate.

But Young said instead of yielding, the suspect disembarked from the black Honda Wave motorcycle he was driving, drew a handgun and fired at least twice towards the CSOG operatives before fleeing.
