Cops nab 2 village chiefs, 6 others in Albay gambling raids

LEGAZPI CITY – Police operatives collared on Tuesday eight people, two of them village chiefs, in illegal gambling raids in Daraga town in Albay, reports reaching the Philippine National Police (PNP) regional office here said Wednesday.

The police raiding team also seized at least P271,942.75 worth of bet money in a “poker” game at a restobar and a food service establishment both in barangay Sipi, Daraga town, Police Senior Inspector Maria Luisa Calubaquib, PNP Bicol spokesperson, said.

Calubaquib said the raid was initiated by the Daraga police where policemen arrested Wilfredo Nayve, 47, village chief and resident of Barangay (village) Market Site, Daraga and Napo Cardel, 53, village chief of Barangay Binanuahan, Legazpi City.

Margie Barcelon, 51, of Barangay Sagpon, Elvie Mapagdalita, 44 of Barangay Bagumbayan, Vick Galicia, 50, of Barangay Sagpon, Noel Repolles, 39, of Barangay Sagpon, Michael Millena, 39, of Barangay Tagas, all in Daraga town, and Edgar Manzano, 18, resident of Barangay 16, Legazpi City were also arrested in the raids.

The suspects, confiscated bet money and gambling paraphernalia, were brought to the Daraga town police station for documentation. A case for violation of anti-illegal gambling laws will be filed against the suspects. CDG
