Incoming labor chief Bello mulls renaming DOLE

DAVAO CITY—Incoming lLabor Secretary Silvestre Bello III is mulling to change the name of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

“I’m suggesting for DOLE to probably be Department of Labor and Management or Department of Labor and Employer’,” Bello told reporters in a press briefing here on Tuesday.

He said the labor department under the Duterte administration would like to focus also on management.

“There is a perception that DOLE is one-sided,” he said, adding that renaming the department would be a good way to reach all stakeholders of the workforce.

”Let us also give comfort for the employers,” he said.

Bello has earlier said that he would work on ending contractualization in the labor industry in line with President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s promise to end this practice in the country. CDG/rga
