After posting their insights on recent statements made by President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, singer Aiza Seguerra and a law student from the University of the Philippines are now on the receiving end of  attacks from supporters of the firebrand President on social media.

Seguerra earlier called on her fellow Duterte supporters to keep their calm and respect the opposing views of other people on the incoming Chief Executive.

“As a Duterte supporter, I would encourage na sana wag naman tayo maging (others not to be) blind followers. It will help our President kung hindi tayo (if we are not) one-sided at marunong tayong magbigay ng respeto sa opinion ng iba (and for us to learn to respect the opinions of others) instead of fanning the flames of hatred towards people who don’t share the same point of view or opinion,” Seguerra wrote on her Instagram account.

(That’s a shame, are you really supporters of Mayor Duterte? Don’t interfere with what comes out of his mouth, watch out instead for whatever wrongdoing he may do, he already said he would try to change once he takes office, hasn’t he?)

Instagram user @genhanash said that the singer should be loyal to Duterte: “Para sa’kin nman kung mahal mo ang isang tao hndi mo sya ilalaglag khit mali pa sya.. specially in public.Loyalty ba.. I don’t care if that is being a blind follower.. for me that’s a pure loyalty..”

(For me, if you love a person, you won’t leave his side despite the wrong he has done…especially in public. Are you talking about loyalty…I don’t care if that is being a blind follower.. for me that’s a pure loyalty..”

UP Law student Chad Patrick Osorio came under fire from Duterte supporters after he posted a satire piece on the recent pronouncements of the tough-talking mayor.

Osorio’s “Congrats Mayor” went viral on social media and it was not long before he received death threats online.

A Facebook user named Dann Navarro threatened him that he will personally track the law student down and kill him: “hahanapin ka namin putqngna mo! Ako na papatay sau!ruwang tuwa ka g*go ka!!! nagpost kp animal ka!!!”

(We will find you, you [expletive]! I will be the one to kill you! You’re happy, aren’t you, you [expletive]! You even posted, you animal!!!)

Responding to these threats, Osorio only hoped that Filipinos would wake up from a “fascist, uncultured, nightmare of an administration” soon.

“I wrote a sarcastic article to criticize an incoming politician, which is well within my right to speech. It’s less vulgar and less insulting than a President of the country catcalling a female reporter on live TV. But his rabid fans are angry at me for mirroring the way they think…Good night, Philippines. May we wake up from this fascist, uncultured nightmare of an administration soon,” he said in a separate Facebook post on Wednesday.

Osorio’s satirical post, which has been riddled with vulgar remarks and threats directed at him, “liked” by more than 8,000 Facebook users and shared by more than 1,700 others.

Duterte has drawn flak from catcalling a female television reporter in a recent press conference andt from seemingly justifying the murder of some “corrupt” journalists.
