Sleepless, distraught grocery worker stabs 2, faces frustrated murder raps

MANILA — Without sleep for four days already, a distraught Savemore employee from Bulacan stabbed his live-in partner and his sister’s live-in partner, and attempted to stab his four-year-old niece on Wednesday, in Barangay North Bay Boulevard South in Navotas City.
Jayson Turla, a resident of Balagtas, Bulacan, is currently detained at the Navotas City police headquarters after surrendering to the Police station 9 of the Quezon City Police District in Kamuning, Quezon City, around 9:15 am where he fled right after the stabbings.
The victims were identified as Joan Termulo, 30, his live-in partner; Jayrix Maneja, 30, his sister’s live-in partner; and niece.
PO2 Paul Roma, the Navotas City Police Station investigator, said Turla and his sister Princess Joan were about to leave the house in Barangay North Bay Boulevard South around 6:30 a.m. to buy breakfast when Termulo stopped him from bringing with him a bladed weapon.
This angered the suspect who immediately stabbed Termulo “without hesitation,” Roma said.
Termulo sustained stab wounds in the abdomen, right hand and left elbow.
Jayrix Maneja, meanwhile, tried to pacify the suspect but ended up being stabbed five times in the back.
Afterwards, the suspect then saw his four-year-old niece and tried to stab her. She had lacerated wounds after the attack. Turla’s sister intervened, driving the suspect away, police said.
Turla fled immediately and rode a bus to Kamuning, Quezon City.
However, instead of going to his relatives’ house, Turla surrendered to the Police station 9 around 9:30 am.
Operatives from the Kamuning City Police turned him over to the Navotas City Police around 2 p.m.
In an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Turla said he was not able to sleep for more than four days because of death threats from his co-workers whom he allegedly caught doing illegal activities inside the grocery.
Turla will undergo inquest proceedings on Thursday (June 9) for frustrated homicide in relation to Republic Act 9262 (the law defining and punishing violence against women and children) and another frustrated homicide and physical injury in relation to RA 7610 (law against child abuse), according to PO2 Joemir Juhan.
