Taguig gov’t hires more PWDs as encoders
The Taguig City government has hired 12 more deaf-mute individuals as encoders, bringing to 26 the number of persons with disabilities (PWDs) under its payroll.
The local PWD Affairs Office chief Larry Supaz said the new employees were assigned to the Taguig City Integrated Survey System (TCISS), like the 14 who made up the first batch hired last year.
The TCISS is a mechanism that “provides evidence-based information that the city government uses as a platform for planning and implementing programs and projects that are based on the actual situation of its constituents,” City Hall said in a recent statement.
“You have to understand that most of the deaf-mute came from overprotective families. They have limited social skills. Their employment would give them an opportunity to experience what it’s like to be an ordinary employee,” Supaz explained.
Mayor Lani Cayetano said the continued hiring of PWDs was also in compliance with Republic Act No. 10524, or the Act Expanding Positions Reserved for PWDs, which was enacted in 2013. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
