No to a Red-controlled labor dept

GIVING the natural resources, agrarian reform and social welfare portfolios to the communists is a brilliant plan of the incoming Digong administration.

The New People’s Army (NPA), the communists’ armed component, could prevent illegal logging or mining since its members inhabit the mountains and forests.

The rebels would become guardians of genuine agrarian reform since the communist insurgency started because of the inequitable distribution of land.

The communists would make excellent social workers since they champion the poor and oppressed sectors of society.

But giving the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to the communists would spell disaster for the economy.

A communist-held DOLE would drive away foreign investors and lead to a more viciously militant labor force.

During the time of President Cory, many companies were hit by strikes, lockdowns and sit-downs because the DOLE was headed by Bobbit Sanchez, a leftist.

President Digong should reconsider giving the labor portfolio to the communists.

If the incoming chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Chief Supt. Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa, is serious about cleansing the police organization of scoundrels, one-third of the force would be given the boot.

One in three policemen is criminal, drug-tainted, or a good-for-nothing son of a b—h. And that’s even a very conservative figure; rough estimates place the number of misfits in the PNP at half the entire force.

I tend to agree on the rough estimate, using the citizens who come to my program, “Isumbong Mo kay Tulfo,” as basis.

As a self-appointed ombudsman, I have received so many complaints against criminal, abusive and inefficient policemen that I have lost count of them.

(There’s a difference between a criminal cop and an abusive cop; the first is involved in crime, the second is a petty tyrant.)

De la Rosa said that in his campaign against drugs and criminality, he would issue a shoot-to-kill order on criminals.

He said he would not tolerate errant policemen, who would either be sanctioned or dismissed from the service.
