MetroBriefs: Lawyer killed in QC
THE POLICE have started investigating the circumstances behind the killing of a 56-year-old lawyer in broad daylight at a busy thoroughfare in Barangay Central, Quezon City, on Monday afternoon.
According to a report from the Kamuning police which has jurisdiction over the area, the ambush on East Avenue near BIR Road took the life of lawyer Ferdinand Lopez.
He was identified by his driver Jerico Ricafort and staffer Richard Solis who were also wounded in the attack.
Kamuning police chief Supt. Pedro Sanchez said that at 3:10 p.m. on Monday, the three men were in Lopez’s car with Ricafort behind the wheel when two men on a motorcycle without any license plate fired upon them before speeding away.
Sanchez said that Lopez had just come from an estafa hearing in Quezon City in which he was the complainant. Investigators, however, were still trying to determine if the attack was related to the case. Jaymee T. Gamil

Cops foil extortion try
A TRAFFIC enforcer who had been extorting money for months from motorists passing through Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City, was arrested by policemen shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Nelson Castañeda, 46, a civilian traffic enforcer from the Quezon City Police District’s (QCPD) Enforcement Unit Sector 3, was caught red-handed as he and four other unidentified men were talking to the driver of a truck around 12:30 a.m.
The four men, however, were able to escape. Supt. Jay Agcaoili, head of the QCPD special operations unit, said that they had been receiving reports that traffic enforcers deployed to Katipunan Avenue were harassing motorists. Jovic Yee
