The Commission on Elections (Comelec) late last night declared failure of elections in more areas in the Visayas and Mindanao.

In a resolution, the Comelec said 703 registered voters from Barangay Katuli, Sultan Kudarat, in Maguindanao, were unable to vote because the ballot box, including other election materials, were forcibly taken by unidentified men.

Members of the board of election inspectors (BEI) escaped and were nowhere to be found, the Comelec said.

More than 700 voters from Barangay Binucayan, Loreto, Agusan del Sur province, were also unable to vote due to lack of official ballots.

The Comelec also said no elections were held in Barangay Palayog, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, due to misdelivered ballots, affecting 685 voters.

Special elections will be held in all these areas tomorrow, the Comelec said.
