Of all the “vicious” attacks on social media that administration vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo received, it was someone wishing that she died instead of her husband Jesse that tested her patience.
In an interview with Jessica Soho on GMA News TV’s State of the Nation, Robredo recalled how she almost responded to a netizen’s post on Facebook, telling her that she was “evil” and that she should have switched places with Jesse when the latter died in a plane crash in 2012.

“May nagpost sa Facebook na ‘napaka-evil mo. Sana ikaw na lang ‘yung nasa eroplano noong bumagsak, hindi ‘yung asawa mo,’” said Robredo.
The Camarines Sur representative said she received the harsh comment when she started leading in the unofficial tally of the votes for the vice presidential race, overtaking Senator Bongbong Marcos.
“Na-tempt na akong sagutin na ‘hindi mo lang alam na noong bumagsak ‘yung eroplano ng asawa ko, everyday every night winiwish ko na ako ‘yung nasa eroplanong ‘yon,” she said.
But Robredo, who was thrust into politics after Jesse, the former Interior secretary and mayor of Naga City died off the Masbate coast, said she chose to ignore it and “see the bigger picture.”
“Ano ‘yung bigger picture? Hahayaan mo bang ma-drag down ka nung mga hindi mabubuti” Syempre kailangan ‘yung focus mo hindi nawawala kasi andito ka para makapagsilbi ng tao,” she said.
Robredo said she had been learning how to deal with “vicious” attacks against her—one of this is practicing restraint.
Some supporters of Marcos are accusing Robredo and the Liberal Party of rigging the partial tally of votes provided real-time by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as Robredo holds a slim lead against Marcos.
The latest from the Comelec Transparency Server at 10:38 a.m. showed Robredo with 13,943,334 votes while Marcos had 13,718,008 for a 225,326 lead.
