Guia Gomez trumps ally-turned-foe in San Juan City
REELECTIONIST Mayor Guia Gomez has won in San Juan City over her rival, incumbent Vice Mayor Francis Zamora in a hotly-contested race.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared Gomez, the former partner of Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, as the winner of the mayoral race with 28, 828 votes.
This will be Gomez’ third and final term.
Gomez and Zamora were former allies. However, Zamora accused Gomez of dumping him and his father Rep. Ronaldo Zamora in favor of vice mayor-elect Janella Estrada and Jana Ejercito.
Meanwhile, the daughter of detained Senator Jinggoy Estrada, Janella, received 29, 939 votes. She crushed Totoy Bernardo who only got 20, 505 votes.
Article continues after this advertisementIn the race for the House of Representatives, Rep. Zamora got 31, 172 votes to beat Jana Ejercito who garnered 22, 922 votes.
Since 1969, the Ejercito-Estrada clan has held the city’s mayoral post.
