Vice President Jejomar Binay late Monday said he would respect the democratic institutions of the country and wait for the count to be finished, after failing to lead in the presidential elections according to the latest unofficial count.
In a statement on Monday night, Binay said the public should respect the results of the elections after the process was completed.
“I have repeatedly called for respecting institutions and the democratic process. Once the process is completed, we should always respect the outcome,” Binay said.
“We should all move towards healing and unity for our divided land,” he added.
Binay made the statement after falling at fourth place in the latest unofficial count, surpassed by unofficial count frontrunner Davao city mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Earlier, Binay’s spokesperson Atty. Rico Quicho said it is still “mathematically possible” for the vice president to win the elections.

Binay camp’s communications director Joey Salgado also claimed that voters who support Vice President Binay were disenfranchised in Binay’s bailiwicks by the ruling Liberal Party.
