DAVAO CITY, Philippines—The Philippine National Police on Monday said election day is generally peaceful here.
“Davao City is peaceful and normal as of this time,” Police Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, Davao City Police spokespeson, said.
Driz said police personnel, including members of the explosive ordinance disposal team, were deployed to the Daniel Aguinaldo National High School where presidential frontrunner Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is expected to vote.
Duterte is expected to cast his vote at polling precinct 416 around 2 p.m.
Driz said a crowd control team was also deployed inside the school premises to secure the mayor.
As of posting time, Driz said the Davao City police are on “full alert” amid reports of threats against Duterte.
“We will secure him while he is voting,” Driz said, adding that there was no “intense threat.”
