Vice presidential candidate Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday commended Comelec for having a “pleasant” voting process, but also called on the the poll body to make sure that the elections will be credible.
Cayetano arrived at Sta. Teresa Elementary School with his wife and Taguig City reelectionist Mayor Lani — both in their campaign color of red — around 7 a.m., an hour after polling precincts opened in Barangay (village) Bagumbayan here.
The Cayetanos patiently fell in line and took more than an hour before casting their votes.
“Very, very isolated more on lang sa shading but so far, so good,” Cayetano told reporters as he exited from the crowded precinct and into the clustered corridor. “Chairman at buong Comelec, gawin nating lahat na maging maganda, mabilis at credible ang bilangan. Ang kinabukasan ng ating mga kabataan, ng ating bansa nakasalalay dito. But so far, so good.”
(I call on the Comelec Chairman and the entire body, let’s do everything to make sure that the counting of vote will be fast and orderly. The future of our children and our nation is on the line. But so far, so good.)
Cayetano also urged all precincts to allow full access to the media as a way to ensure a clean election.
“At sana pakiusap sa lahat, bigyan niyo ng full media access kasi hindi lang kailangan credible, kailangan may perception of credibility. ‘Pag hindi mo pinapasok ang media akala nila may tinatago.”
(I also urge everyone to give the media full access because we need to make sure that aside from being credible, the elections have to have a perception of credibility.)
Cayetano said he has plans to pay presidential frontrunner Rodrigo Duterte a visit in Davao later while also closely monitoring the elections.
Also part of his itinerary is a breakfast and movie date with Lani. IDL/rga
