Drilon, Sotto top picks for senator in final SWS pre-election poll

Re-electionist senators Franklin Drilon and Vicente “Tito” Sotto hold the top two spots in the senatorial race in the final SWS pre-election survey.

Drilon, incumbent Senate President, is number one followed by Sotto in the results published late Thursday on the BusinessWorld website.

Statistically tied and sharing the third and fourth spots are returning Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and Sarangani lone district Representative, boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.  After being elected in the senate for two consecutive terms or a total of 12 years, Pangilinan served as presidential adviser on food security and agriculture or “food czar” in the Aquino administration.

Solely holding the fifth spot is former PhilHealth director Risa Hontiveros, who is running for senator for the third time. Hontiveros was also Akbayan Partylist representative in the 13th and 14th congress.

In statistical tie from sixth to eight spots are returning Senator Panfilo Lacson Jr., incumbent Senator Sergio Osmeña III and former Tesda secretary Joel Villanueva.

Also statistically tied on the ninth and 10th spots are former senator Richard “Dick” Gordon and reelectionist Ralph Recto.  Gordon was former tourism secretary and still serves as chairman of the Philippine Red Cross. Recto is also known as the husband of veteran actress Vilma Santos.

The 11th and 12th spots are a close fight between returning senator Juan Miguel Zubiri and former justice secretary Leila de Lima.

The last BusinessWorld-SWS pre-election survey was conducted from May 1 to May 3 through face-to-face interviews with 4,500 validated voters nationwide, with a sampling error margin of ± 1 point.

Trailing at the 13th spot is businessman and former Valenzuela City Representative Sherwin Gatchalian.  Reelectionist Senator Teofisto “TG” Guingona III is 14th. TVJ
