A devoted dog in Romania has been playing his best ‘Hachicko’ impression for an absurd amount of time, as it’s been waiting outside his dead owner’s house for the past five years.

A report from the Daily Express said the loyal canine refused to leave the now uninhabited house in the village of Malu Mare, despite several attempts from residents to pry it away from the main entrance.

Neighbors believe the oblivious pooch is still waiting patiently for his master’s return, apparent by its refusal to move regardless of the season or weather.

Thoughtful passers-by feed the dog every day, according to the report, but the animal refuses to let anyone inside the courtyard.

“The dog is not aggressive, but won’t let anyone in, it just guards the property,” said the village mayor, Alexandru Dicu. “You rarely find this sort of attachment in a person.”

The village veterinarian, Doru Safta, meanwhile, stressed that residents should stop trying to lure the dog out and just continue providing the utilities it needs instead.

“Taking this dog away from the place where it waits for its master is the worst thing people could do to it.” the report quoted the vet saying. “Locals should create better conditions for the dog where it is, give it a kennel, feed it every day, and give it water.

The animal’s name remains unknown, as those who live close by said the owner was notoriously private and they knew nothing about him nor his faithful companion. Khristian Ibarrola
