Following the lead of Liberal Party standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, his running mate Camarines Sur Representative Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo has waived her bank secrecy rights, authorizing the Office of the Ombudsman and the Bureau of Internal Revenue to scrutinize all her financial records.
Robredo’s move came after Roxas signed in front of the media on Thursday a notarized affidavit of transparency and urged other national candidates to follow his lead.

It was indicated in the affidavit posted on Robredo’s official Facebook page on Friday that she signed the document on Thursday in Zamboanga City.
Like Roxas’, the affidavit of transparency Robredo signed will cover all her accounts starting from the year she first assumed office in government.
The administration tandem waived their bank secrecy rights amid a controversy involving Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s alleged secret accounts containing millions of pesos.
Duterte earlier denied owning the Bank of the Philippines Islands (BPI) account in 2014, saying it was “fabricated and non-existent.”
On the same day Roxas proved the existence of Duterte’s account, the mayor admitted its existence but, contrary to the claims of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that the account contained P211 million, Duterte said his bank accounts only have about P50,000 and P17,500.

Roxas’ presidential rival, who is currently leading in surveys, maintained that he would not issue a waiver for the said account until Trillanes filed a formal affidavit stating where he got the information about Duterte’s supposed accounts. RAM/rga
