Marcos reflects on ‘People Power’: Every generation wants its own leader

If there is one thing that Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has learned from the Edsa “People Power” revolt that toppled his family’s 20-year hold in the country is that each generation wants a new leader.

Marcos, in a luncheon with bloggers and members of the digital media Wednesday, said that the fall of his family from power was brought by the desire of the Filipino people to have someone who is not associated with the Marcoses.

The preference poll front-runner said that while his father was being vilified, he still believes that the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos has done “many good things” in the country.

“I still believe that he has done many good things but despite of that, many people were saying, ‘we don’t want that, not my parent’s guy…’ as the generation shifts, the leadership shifts,” he said.

Asked if he will seek a presidential bid in 2022, the younger Marcos gave a flat-out “no.” RAM
