Vice presidential aspirant Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday vowed to cooperate with the country’s next president, regardless of political affiliation, should he win the vice presidency in the upcoming May polls.
“If I’m elected vice president, it will be a leadership of partnership,” Marcos said during an INQ&A Live interview.
Marcos, who has been leading preference polls, said the message of his campaign had always been unity.
“That has been my message throughout this campaign—the need for national unity. That is something I feel is necessary if we want to move the country forward,” he said.
“If it’s all politics, hindi na tayo makakaabante. That will be my wish,” he added.
The son and namesake of the late dictator said the first thing he would do if elected to the second highest national post was to approach the president and express his desire to cooperate.
Marcos also vowed a return of “excellence in governance,” saying that the past six years were marked by mediocrity.
“The last six years have been particularly a bad situation in terms of excellence in governance … They don’t know their job; they basically don’t care whether they are doing a good job or not,” he said.
Noting that the government usually failed in implementation, Marcos said his experience in the executive branch as governor gave him an edge over other vice presidential candidates.
“I have the most experience in government. Unlike other candidates, I’ve been in executive positions as well. I got the idea that you actually go out and do things,” he said. RC
