Almost a month after its website was hacked and a website claiming to contain a database of the 55 million voters’ personal information went online, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said that it will file a report on the incident to the National Privacy Commission (NPC).
In a press briefing, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said that the full Commission is set to finish its report to the NPC on Tuesday.

“Hinahanda na po ang report namin sa kanila. Hopefully, mailabas na po yan today (We are preparing our report to the NPC. Hopefully, it would be out today),” Jimenez told reporters.
The Comelec official said that the en banc is currently discussing who among the commissioners would write the report.
“Ina-identify na po ng en banc kung sino ang magsusulat ng report at fina-finalize na po ngayon (The en banc is identifying who among the commissioners would write the report and it is being finalized today),” he said.
No further details on the contents of the report were given to the media.
In an earlier interview with ABS-CBN, NPC Deputy Commissioner Atty. Ivy Patdu said that the Comelec may be liable for not reporting the data leak to the NPC.

“The Data Privacy Act requires them to report to the Privacy Commission in case of breach,” Patdu said.
Patdu said that as early as April 8, they have requested a report on the hacking incident of the poll body’s website which happened last March 27.
Comelec Chair Andres Bautista has earlier said that he is ready to face any case in connection with the massive leak of 55 million voters’ data earlier this month. RAM
