Duterte eyes improved mass railway system

AN improved mass railway transit would be the solution to heavy traffic in Metro Manila, presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said on Sunday.

“There is no silver bullet magic to solve the traffic problem now,” Duterte said during the last presidential debate in Pangasinan. “We have to improve the mass transit of people.”

The tough-talking mayor said the government should build new railways. He also suggested to use the Pasig River since there was no right of way there.

He said his proposal may take a year or two to be accomplished.

But to ease commuters’ woes, he said he would ask the MRT-3 and the LRT to add trains for the meantime to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of people commuting everyday.
