A militant group on Thursday slammed President Benigno Aquino III after viral photos of presidential sister and actress Kris Aquino showed that she rode the presidential chopper to get to one of the campaign sorties of the Liberal Party (LP).

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) accused the administration of using government funds for LP’s campaign kitty.

“The issue isn’t whether or not it is OK for Kris Aquino to ride the presidential chopper with her brother. The issue is whether or not it is right for both of them to be using government resources to campaign for the Liberal Party,” Bayan secretary general Renato Reyes Jr. said in a statement.

Malacañang has  explained that as a member of the President’s immediate family, Kris is allowed to use official government vehicles.

“Members of the President’s immediate family are allowed to ride with him in official government vehicles,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said on Wednesday.

But for Reyes, Malacañang’s defense of Kris’ use of government vehicles “only shows everything wrong with this regime.”

“The LP is showing itself to be the most corrupt for its shameless use of government funds and resources for partisan political activity.”

“From 4Ps to local projects, the budget is treated as the campaign kitty of the ruling party. All candidates should complain and protest the unfair advantage and dirty tactics employed by the LP,” he said.

Kris has  joined the campaign for LP standard-bearers Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and Camarines Sur Representative Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo.
