The lone vice presidential debate administered by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the May 9 polls kicked off on Sunday, with six candidates taking the stage at Asia’s oldest and only pontifical university as they share their platforms and stand on pressing issues.

All bets vying for the second highest position in the land, namely Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Sen. Gringo Honasan, Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, attended the debate, which is being held at the University of Santo Tomas’ Quadricentennial Pavilion.

Supporters trooped and gathered outside the Sampaloc campus even before gates opened hours ahead of the event.

Honasan of the United Nationalist Alliance was the first candidate to arrive at the venue. His running mate Vice President Jejomar Binay also attended the event.

Liberal Party’s Robredo arrived with her daughters  Aika, Tricia and Jillian, while Cayetano was accompanied by his wife, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, and brother Taguig Rep. Lino Cayetano and wife Fille Cainglet.
