Laguna mayor wounded in gun attack, 2 killed

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna — Mayor Buenafrido Berris of Calauan town in Laguna province was wounded while two men were killed in a shooting attack in Calauan on Sunday afternoon, police said.

In a text message, Senior Supt. Ronnie Montejo, Laguna provincial police director, said Berris, a candidate for reelection, was taken to a hospital in San Pablo City after he was attacked at 5 p.m. in Barangay Imok in Calauan.

Montejo said Leonardo Taningco and Emmanuel Pena died in the gun attack.

He said as of 7 p.m., details of the attack remained sketchy. He said it was not clear how Berris was related to the fatalities.

Montejo said he was on his way to Calauan on Sunday night to check the progress of the investigation.  SFM
