President Benigno Aquino III, in his last Easter message as the chief executive, asked Filipinos on Sunday to “seek light amid uncertainty” as the country is set to choose his successor in less than two months time.
Aquino asked the electorate to choose a candidate who would continue the reforms he implemented.
“As our nation approaches another crossroads, let us seek the light amidst the clouds of uncertainty,” Aquino said.
Former Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II is Aquino’s anointed successor. He has been lagging behind his rivals in voter preference polls.
Roxas’ campaign is hinged on continuing the Aquino administration’s “tuwid na daan” (straight path) vision of good governance, which the President touted in his Easter message.
The President said that his “straight path” vision showed that “positive transformation” is possible.
“The Daang Matuwid showed us the path towards positive transformation: We are weeding out the corrupt and strengthening our institutions, and through reform, we are freeing ourselves from poverty, towards a more just, more inclusive society,” he said.
In the end, Aquino expressed confidence that the Filipino people will “embrace the chance to establish an enduring mainstream of redemption in our country.”
“Today, let us make a stand: Fearless and full of hope, we charge towards a brighter, more empowered tomorrow,” Aquino said. JE
