Valdes apologizes for allowing Binay to bring notes

Liberal Party standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II on Sunday made a “strong protest” before the start of the second presidential debate here after Vice President Jejomar Binay wanted to bring his notes with him on stage.

Luchi Cruz-Valdes said there was a “miscommunication,” which caused the delay of the debate which should have started at 5 p.m.

Valdes said the Commission on Elections (Comelec) had a rule that during the debate, no presidential candidate is allowed to bring notes. However, Valdes said Binay’s camp had asked her if the vice president could bring notes with him and she said yes.

Valdes claimed she was not informed by the Comelec of the said rule.

During the debate, Binay brought with him his notes, however, Valdes was quick to say that they would abide by the Comelec rule.

However, Binay insisted it was a document and not a note. RAM
