4 cops face dismissal for ‘extorting’ P10K from businessman
MANILA — Four policemen are facing dismissal charges for robbing a businessman of P10,000 inside a patrol car in Sta. Ana, Manila on Sunday.
SPO1 Ed Toledo of the Manila Police District identified the accused as Police Officer 2 Rodel Coronel, and PO1s Errold Garcia, Kenneth Campos, and Peter John Galit.
In his complaint, victim Mark Anthony Tan told Toledo that the accused the cops extorted P10,000 from him.
Tan said he was on board a motorcycle when the cops on patrol flagged him down on Gabbys street about 3 p.m. for not wearing a helmet. Tan offered to pay P200 for the mistake but the cops did not accept it after seeing he had metal scraps.
Tan alleged that the cops checked his things and when they saw the P50,000 cash, they demanded P10,000 in exchange for his release.
“They even threatened to shoot me,” he said in a statement submitted to Toledo.
