Roxas: Vote receipts to ensure proper count, peaceful elections

Roxas: Comelec should enforce SC order on voter receipts

BATANGAS CITY—Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas on Wednesday said he was in favor of the Supreme Court order requiring the Commission on Elections to issue ballot receipts to voters as it would safeguard the election results.

“Maganda na may kopya ang ating mga botante para masiguro nila na kung ano ang ibinilang ng computer ay ’yan din ang totoong ibinoto nila. So may basehan silang pagreklamuhan,” Roxas told reporters during a chance interview in Batangas City.

“Kasi sa ngayon, pag-shade mo at pag-submit mo, medyo hindi mo na alam kung ano ang ibinilang ng makina eh. Alam mo lang na meron kang shinade na papel. So isa itong dagdag na proteksyon para sa payapa at maayos na halalan,” said Roxas.

While in Batangas, Roxas and his running mate Leni Robredo visited a public market in Barangay (village) Cuta and had a brief dialogue with fisherfolk at Sitio Ilaya in Barangay Sta. Clara. He lost to Vice President Jejomar Binay in this vote-rich province in the 2010 elections.

Roxas claimed that Binay cheated in the election where they fought for the vice presidential seat, hence his call for a “clean and credible elections.”

The high court recently ordered the Comelec to activate the receipt printing feature of the vote-counting machines (VCMs) for the 2016 national elections.

The en banc decision disappointed the poll body, saying enabling the feature would force the Comelec officials to push back their timetables ahead of the Election Day two months from now.

“Humatol na ang Supreme Court,” Roxas said. “It’s the job now of the Comelec na ipatupad itong utos ng Korte Suprema.” RC
