The Palawan Regional Trial Court Branch 52 on Monday convicted one of the accused in the death of broadcaster and environmentalist Gerardo “Gerry” Ortega in 2011.

Palawan provincial prosecutor Allen Ross Rodriguez said over the phone that Arturo “Nonoy” Regalado was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced of up to 40 years imprisonment.

Regalado was a former staff of former Palawan Governor Joel Reyes and also served as employee in the city capitol during Reyes’ stint. Both Reyes and his brother Mario were also accused for the murder of Ortega. The brothers, however, denied their involvement.
