Corals seized at Cebu City pier

/ 07:07 AM May 21, 2011

AUTHORITIES seized 178 sacks of sea corals that were loaded on a cargo ship docked at Pier 7, Cebu City.

In a report by GMA-7’s “Balitang Bisdak,” the corals were not listed in the ship’s manifest when they were seized by personnel of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Visayas (BFAR-7) yesterday morning.

The TV report said the corals may have come from Indonesia or Spratly Islands.

The ship came from Zamboanga and was bound for Manila but diverted its trip to Cebu.

Nathaniel Lucera of BFAR-7 said the seized corals are rare in the Philippines and are expensive marine products.
